Liz works as a Leadership and Team Coach, with a background of twenty-something (!) years in IT, Software Development, Business Analysis, Facilitation and Agile methods, and ten years of coaching experience.
She also works with a Coach Training organisation in Ireland helping managers to develop their skills in professional coaching.
Over years of working in and with teams, she’s found that youthful, dynamic, technical professionals coming into leadership roles may not yet have had the opportunity to learn the skills, tools and techniques that help them to lead with impact, build a cohesive team, and ensure accountability and delivery of results; so she works with those leaders and their teams to help them build thriving, productive and profitable teams.
There’s also a growing global movement in the leadership and coaching space as progressive organisations start to move towards a coaching culture – building people’s empathy, resilience, focus and creating an empowered and enlightened workforce, who can collaborate across boundaries and geographies with strong working relationships.
She believes that the two worlds of Agile and Coaching together can become the fundamental cornerstone to supporting “individuals and interactions” and Creating Generation Agile.
Liz’s Roundtable: Empowering Generation Agile Through Coaching Skills
We hear a lot about Agile Coaching, but what is really meant by “coaching” in this context? Aren’t they just telling the team what to do and how to do it?! Is that really Empowerment? To create a truly agile team or organisation, people must be empowered – to be able to think for themselves, collaborate to solve problems and create innovative outcomes. But as managers and leaders of teams, if we become “helicopter parents” solving every problem, answering every question and wanting to retain control, we DISempower our colleagues.
The solution to this lies in developing your ability to have a coaching conversation with your colleagues and team members … ask questions, challenge, reframe, tap into the team’s creativity and ability to become more than the sum of its parts. Get some insights and let’s try out some coaching skills to enable you to truly empower your team and create true business agility.
