Several years ago I worked with a major financial service provider. Together with the client we concluded that only 2 cents of every euro that was invested in IT, came back as working software. 98% was being wasted. The major impact that this situation had on people and lost value really hit me. It motivated me for the past 10 years to primarily focus on the following question: How do you connect people with knowledge of technology and people with knowledge of the client and the market in such a way, that it results in quick and value-adding innovation?
For the past ten years I have worked on major lean and agile transformations in Europe and Asia with clients in the financial, retail, logistics and entertainment sector. In essence solving strategic challenges relating to digitalisation through behaviour change while working for the leading Dutch consultancy firm &samhoud.

In addition to consultancy, &samhoud consists of several business lines: & samhoud media (AR/VR), &samhoud food (healthy food innovations), &samhoud places (2 star restaurant) and &ranj (serious gaming). These different business lines lead to knowledge sharing and bring innovation to our consultancy processes. For example, we use Serious Gaming or Virtual Reality for behavioural change. Besides we bring the entrepreneurial and start-up mindset/culture from our brands to the corporates we support.

This is an agile transformation story about the IT organization and business interaction points of Albert Heijn (AH), the leading food retailer in the Netherlands. AH IT comprises an ecosystem of internal employees and external partners that makes up 2000 people in total and is the critical driver for technological change for the entire organization.
The organization went from local agile experiments to Scaled agile at an incredible pace in just one year. We truly pushed the boundaries of what is believed to be possible. When we started this change, it was unimaginable to our environment that we would succeed. We want to show the audience that every organization and person has the hidden ability for change and evolution within them, and that they can achieve the same changes and success that we did.
We will share a honest story on what went well in this transformation that made us proud but also our brilliant failures that taught us a lot and our way going forward. Practical tools and movies are shown to give an impression on how AH IT transformed which can help you change your organization.
