Bill Mills is the Chief Executive and Founder of Explore Learning, a leading provider of English and Maths tuition for children aged four to fourteen. Bill started up the company in 2000, opening his first centre in Chelmsford, Essex in 2001.
Education is at the heart of Bill’s life after he was born and brought up at Highfield School in Hampshire, which was founded by his grandfather in 1907 and where his father worked as Headmaster.
Bill graduated from St John’s College, Cambridge in 1988. He joined the American consulting firm, Bain and Company and after two years he went part-time in order to establish a pre-prep school linked to Highfield called Brookham.
In 1991, Bill joined Warrior International, a corporate finance boutique focused on the natural resources sector worldwide where he spent time in Chicago, establishing Warrior’s North American office.
When his father died, Bill became responsible for Highfield – a school of 150 children. After leaving Warrior (which had been acquired by Standard Bank), Bill focused all his time on the development of Highfield and Brookham schools.
It was during this time that he decided to combine his business acumen with his love for education to create an organisation that provides inspiring tuition in Maths and English tuition.
There are now 137 Explore Learning centres across the UK, with approximately 36,000 members, and 5 centres in suburbs of Dallas Fort Worth, Texas. Bill and the Explore team have plans for continued growth, with a further 10 centre launches planned for 2018.
