Porchlight is a charity that helps people who have nowhere to go and no-one to turn to. Some are homeless and need our help to escape the streets and rebuild their lives. Others are struggling to cope with different pressures in their life and need our support to keep on track. We work with around 5,000 people each year, helping them with homelessness, housing, education and employment, and their health and wellbeing. This help includes:
We’re determined to bring down the numbers of people who are living and sleeping on our streets, and to provide safe, affordable housing for those in need. We’ll continue to support people into education, training or employment to help break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
Ultimately, we’re striving for a fairer society where vulnerable people find stability, the most excluded are included, and where homelessness and poverty are things of the past.
Supporting homeless people in Kent
Homelessness is complicated and tackling it is more than just providing a roof. We offer long term solutions so that people can develop the confidence and the skills to live independently in the future. We have teams working across Kent to support people living on the streets and help them move towards a more positive future. Almost half of the homeless people that we work with have a mental health need. We have to earn their trust before they will accept our support. It means that helping someone off the streets isn’t always straightforward. Our hostels and shared houses are a place to call home for hundreds of people across Kent. They offer a safe environment where people can start to recover from the chaos and stress of homelessness and take steps to rebuild their lives.
