The Agile Business Consortium is proud to announce that Guide Dogs UK has been selected as the Consortium’s charity partner for the 2018 Conference. There are over 4,950 active guide dogs working in the UK – empowering, supporting and enabling their owners to enjoy a level of autonomy and control that would be impossible without them.
Dogs are naturally Agile; sensing, reflecting and responding to activity and emotion in their immediate environment. A guide dog leads their owner safely through the obstacles in their way, but does not have the final say. The owner of a guide dog holds that form of leadership responsibility. The dog serves because they want to, because the leader has demonstrated a need and the dog is empowered to fulfil that need to the best of their ability. A guide dog owner is in full control, but without being controlling. This is an ultimately collaborative relationship based on mutual respect, trust and care.
A blind person has strong observation skills, and is often more aware of what is happening in their surroundings than a sighted person. The partnership of a blind person and their guide dog is effective collaboration at its best: we can learn a lot from this.
Guide Dogs UK will be at their stand in the main conference all across both days of the event. Feel free to pay them a visit to learn more about the work they do and to donate to this great cause.
